Beauty Review: Maybelline New York Super Stay Gel Nail Color

I recently purchased the Maybelline Super Stay 7 Day Gel Nail Color in the shade Mint For Life. It’s a gorgeous mint green colour which is spot on for this time of year. I decided to try this product after struggling to find a nail polish which lasted for more than 24 hours.I always found that my nails got chipped and looked horrible which is not what you want. It wasn’t even that I was using cheap nail polish. For months I’d been using Nail’s Inc, but I just couldn’t see what all the fuss is about. I always had to apply a few coats and even then it wouldn’t look right.

Therefore, I decided it was time to look elsewhere for the perfect nail polish. I was recommended this product by my mum, who’s tried this product in the shade Nude Rose which is also gorgeous.

Maybelline Forever Strong Super Stay Gel Color in Mint for Life Review Swatch Swatches (4)

It’s so easy to apply. It’s quite a wide brush which i really liked, and I loved how quickly it dried. You don’t even need two coats with this nail polish which is ideal for when you’re in a rush. The colour is really flattering against my skin tone, and after five days it’s still going strong. There’s hardly any chipping, and that’s after doing things such as the washing up which always seems to be cause of nail chipping for me. It’s the sort of colour that you can wear in the day, and also in the evening because it’s quite a fun shade but can also look quite relaxing depending on what it’s worn with.

I think that I’ll definitely be trying Maybelline’s nail polishes out again. They’re the best I’ve found, and at less than a fiver they’re a bargain too.

Beauty Review: Nivea Lip Balm

I’m one of those people who constantly wears lip balm. My lips always seem to get dry, and so I try to include some form of lip balm in my everyday beauty routine. I also use it as a base if I’m wearing a lipstick. Up until a few months ago, I always used Vaseline, normally the green one, as I loved how smooth it was, how it didn’t cause your lips to flake, and the great shine that it gave to your lips. When I ran out of my last pot, I headed to Sainsburys in search of another, but to my dismay, they didn’t seem to have any left. But then I spotted this item, which is the Nivea Lip Butter in the shade Raspberry Rose Kiss. It was on offer for only £1 as well, so it was a bit of a bargain buy.

The main thing that attracted me to this product was the packaging which I thought was really cute, and when I opened it I was surprised to find how lovely it smells. It’s quite sweet, and in my opinion, very summery. When you apply it, it sinks straight in, but the problem I had with it was that it can leave your lips quite flaky which I didn’t like. It does contain almond oil and shea butter, and despite the flakiness, leaves them otherwise smooth. Maybe my lips just aren’t in the right condition for this product! I did, however, really like that it adds a tint of colour without being overpowering which is great for more casual days. As I previously mentioned, I’ve also found it’s a great lipstick base.

Although I’m not sure I’d buy this product again, I am using it at the moment, and am finding it growing on me. It may not be as great as my old Vaseline, but it does look a lot nicer in my makeup bag!

Beauty buy of the week- Treacle Moon

Like a lot of girls, I’m completely obsessed with shower gels and bubble baths that smell great. Recently I discovered Treacle Moon’s collection of bath and shower gel and they smell delicious! I was initially attracted to them due to their gorgeously cute packaging which I knew would look great in my bathroom. I picked up the Honeycomb Secret and Marshmallow Hearts seeing as they were both on offer in Tesco last week at only £1.99 which is an absolute steal for something that smells like this and looks adorable. If you’re a big fan of Lush then you’ll love this product as they smell just as good but are a lot cheaper. I love that they actually smell like they’re supposed to. My favourite out of the two I picked up is definitely the Honeycomb Secret. It legitimately smells like a Crunchie bar, so make sure if you’re using this product that you’re not starving, because it will make you feel hungry! As if you need any other incentive to try out this product, all Treacle Moon’s products are alcohol free and are against animal testing.

Maybelline Color Drama Lipstick Review

For months and months I searched for the perfect lipstick. A lipstick that would make my lips stand out in a luscious pink and that wouldn’t clash with my red hair. Unfortunately this proved to be quite a difficult task. Normally I turn to No.7 lipsticks from Boots in times of need, but then I discovered Maybelline’s Color Drama lipsticks, and I won’t be looking back.

I decided to go for the shade ‘Keep it Classy’, as it sounded sophisticated and, of course, classy. It’s quite a bright pink, but if you have pale skin, and red hair like me, then it matches perfectly, making all your features stand out. My sister has the same lipstick and yet she has blonde hair and slightly darker skin than me, but still looks great. Seems like this lipstick is one that suits a variety of people! The consistency is quite thick, and occasionally you do have to blot, but it’s worth it for the stand out effect that you get. I’ve found that the best way to apply this lipstick is by putting a layer of vaseline on underneath as it stops if from looking so matte. Another great thing about this lipstick is the price. At Superdrug, it only costs £4.99, which for the perfect lipstick is amazing value.

Perfume Perfection

Trying to find the perfect perfume is much harder than you may originally think. So many perfumes don’t last longer than half an hour, or they’re overpoweringly strong to the point where you can’t stand to wear it any longer. Therefore, I thought I’d share some of my own favourite perfumes which are the perfect mixture of making you smell good, whilst not causing people to cough and avoid you when you come into the room! 🙂

Marc Jacobs Honey- £49.50 (50ml)

Admittedly, the

first thing that drew me to trying out this perfume was the gorgeous bottle which is covered in adorable little honeybees. I asked for this for Christmas, and was delighted to get it, and it looks perfect on my dressing table. It’s a great summery scent that reminds me of sunshine days and blue skies, which means you can get a taste of summer all year round. It’s core scent is pear and fresh mandarins, which means it’s quite fruity, however it contains honey and vanilla undertones, meaning after wearing it for a while, the smell becomes sweeter.

Benefit Lookin’ to Rock Rita- £29.50 (30ml)

Until I recieved this perfume as a gift, I didn’t even realise that Benefit did pefumes

! This one comes from their Crescent Row range, and comes in an adorable box, which you won’t want to throw away, and in a gorgeous funky retro themed bottle. The main scents of this perfume are lemon, coconut and freesia, and it’s a very unique scent that I absolutely adore! It also lasts all day, and tends to linger on your clothes which is great, as it means you remain smelling fresh! Would definitely recommend this perfume if you’re looking for something that makes you stand out from the crowd.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream- £52.00 (50ml)

As you’ve

probably realised by now, I’m just a little bit in love with the Marc Jacobs’ perfume range, which is definitely not good for my bank balance! This fragrance is one of the more popular Marc Jacobs perfumes, and I can see why. This perfume is advertised as being ‘ethereal and innocent’ due to the fact it’s quite a subtle scent. The bottle is a lovely light blue colour, adorned with little white daisies which adds to the feel of innocence. This is another fruity scent however with a hint of musk, the main notes being blackberry, grapefruit and pear.

Frosted Cranberry Shimmer Mist- (I couldn’t seem to find a price for this product, due to the limited availability, and I received it as a gift)

Although The Body Shop classes this as a shimmer mist, I tend to use it as more of a perfume. It does make your skin glitter, and it comes in a beautiful

marble effect bottle. When it comes to The Body Shop, you can’t really go wrong! I have the limited edition version, as it’s part of their seasonal range, but I’m hoping they’ll bring it back next year so I can purchase it again! It’s quite sweet smelling with the main scent being cranberry with underlying hints of vanilla. My only issue with this perfume is that I’ve found you may have to spray it a few times a day so that the smell stays in tact.

Made In Chelsea- £16.16 (50ml)

I know there’s a lot of stigma around celebrity perfumes, however this one is an exception! I’m a big fan of MIC, and this was the main reason I decided to buy this product, and yet I was surprised by how lovely the bottle is and how long it lasts. I’ve been using the same bottle for over a year, wearing it fairly regular, and have jusr under half left. This scent reminds me of glamour, which I think is the manufactures intention, and I’ve found that it’s sweet smelling, whilst also being refreshing at the same time. It’s a very girlie scent, and is ideal for wearing everyday, or for a special occasion. This perfume is definitely a bit of a dark horse!

What’s in my makeup bag?

I love reading other people’s ‘What’s in my makeup bag?’ and so I thought I’d have a go at doing one myself! I’ve not included everything as if I did I’d be here all day, and I’m sure you lovely readers would lose interest, so I’ve just included the products that I use on a daily basis. Let me know in the comments below what you thought of this post, and any other ideas as well. Thank you for reading 🙂

1. No.7 Beautifully Matte Foundation- £13.50

The first beauty product in my makeup bag is my No.7 Beautifully Matte foundation. This product is available from Boots and I have it in the shade Calico, which is the palest shade they do, because I have very pale skin. This product is my beauty must have, as it gives amazing coverage, and tends to last for over twelve hours. It helps to stop your skin looking shiny, and it’s my favourite of the No.7 foundations (I’ve also tried Stay Perfect and the Lift and Luminate). It comes in a bottle with a squeezy top lid and it lasts AGES! I’ve been using the same tube since August and I’ve only just ran out.

2. MUA Blusher- £1.00

This product is an absolute steal, simply because it’s so inexpensive! I picked this up from Superdrug, as I’d never really bothered much with blusher before, and decided it was about time I tried. Since then, I’ve bought Benefit’s Rockateur blusher, however I’ve found that MUA’s cheaper version in the shade Marshmallow, is just as effective. I tend to sweep this on my cheekbones with an angled blusher makeup brush.

3. SEVENTEEN Eye Kohl- £2.89

I first tried this product when I got a SEVENTEEN gift set for Christmas a couple of years ago, but I’ve since made this a regular makeup purchase as it’s the best kohl liner I’ve found. It’s easier to smudge without looking too messy, and also easy to sharpen, a problem I have had with other kohl liners. I have it in black and brown, finding that the black is perfect for nights out, and the brown is perfect for everyday wear. They also do this product in grey, navy blue and green if you’re into more experimental shades of eyeliner!

4. Miss Sporty Studio Lash Liquid Liner- £2.79

I’ve repeatedly bought this product for years as I find it’s affordable, and extremely easy to use unlike some other liquid liners. It’s consistency is not too runny, it dries quickly and the tip creates a great flick too. It tends to last about three to four months, which isn’t too bad either. I’ve recently tried Benefit’s they’re Real! Push Liner, and it doesn’t compare to Miss Sporty’s product.

5. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara- £19.50

I don’t love this product quite as much as Benefit’s they’re Real! mascara, however I tend to use this one for everyday use, as it’s particularly effective if your eyes look tired and you want something to make you look more awake! I find you have to apply a few coats to create a decent curl. I like that this product does not give you a spidery effect, as it’s not my favourite look as I like to look more natural.

Beauty Review: Soap and Glory

For Christmas I got LOADS of Soap and Glory goodies, and so thought that I would test them out and share my thoughts on them. I’d never really tried them before as I thought they were quite expensive, but after trying them all out I’ll definitely be repurchasing. Soap and Glory are a British beauty brand, and they sell it in Boots in the UK if you’re interested in going to get any of these items after you’ve read this post.

Heel Genius- £5.50

The first Soap and Glory product that I tested was the Heel Genius amazing foot cream. Soap and Glory recommend applying a layer of this foot cream onto your heels right before you sleep, and them popping on a pair of socks over the top so that it’s able to soak in over night, which is exactly what I did. It says that it will banish dry skin overnight, however I found this only to be true after about a week of using it. Seeing as it does work, I would recommend it, if not only for the lovely smell!

Hand Food- £5.50

I don’t normally use hand cream, however thought that I’d give this one a go. I was impressed with the consistency, as it was quite light which meant that it quickly soaked in, however seeing as I don’t have dry hands, I thought I’d let someone who did, use it- my boyfriend. Ever since trying this, he has insisted on borrowing it again and again to the point where I’ve left it on the bathroom sink where it is now almost empty. I think it is safe to say that this product successfully worked! He says his hands are much softer than before and all the dry skin has gone.

Clean On Me Shower Gel- £6.50

This is one of their slightly pricier products, however it is so, so worth it! Normally I’d only pay a few pounds for a shower gel, but I think I’m going to start breaking that rule when this runs out. I’ve had this since December, and I’m not even a quarter of the way through it, despite showering every single day. I’ve found that the scent lasts all day, and it is great for sensitive skin as it doesn’t irritate it. I’ve noticed that my skin is a lot smoother than before I started using it too. It foams up really well which I like and you only need a tiny amount for it to do so.

The Righteous Butter- £10

This is again, one of their more pricey products but I love it and would definitely buy it again. It is quite thick but it spreads well over your body. It takes quite a while to soak in, but it keeps your skin smooth and sweet smelling for the rest of the day! My only criticism is that I wish the smell was a little stronger, as I found it to be a bit weaker than some of the other products that I tried. It didn’t last as long as I would typically like a body butter to last.
